How to Make Hot Stamping Embossed Velvet Fabric?

Luxurious velvet is an ideal fabric choice for clothing and upholstery applications, particularly embossed velvet designs with raised designs sunk into its velvet pile and often taking on an iridescent appearance. Making embossed velvet designs yourself can be done easily using a heat iron; just quickly design a beautiful design you can add to clothing or home decor projects!

Velvet fabric is generally constructed using silk, wool or rayon threads; traditional velvet was often made solely from silk for special occasion suits and elegant women's dresses; since industrial power looms became commonplace today more velvet is likely made using polyester, nylon viscose blends - though occasionally natural fiber-made velvet may surface on the market; such instances tend to be rare.

To emboss fabrics successfully, you will require a stencil or stamp, ink and embossing powder. A hot or embossing gun capable of reaching high temperatures is needed in order to melt the powder and create the impression in fabric - a hairdryer cannot adequately heat enough, thus spreading out powder instead of melting it!

Embossing velvet fabric is much simpler than embossing other fabrics, as it does not require embossing powder to imprint designs on it. Instead, hot irons can be used to stamp out designs onto it directly. When first trying this method on velvet it is wise to conduct a test first as different types of velvet may not tolerate heat well from an iron. Also it would be prudent to mist the velvet with water before ironing as misting can help avoid shiny spots that reflect light away from its pattern areas.

Once you are ready to begin, lay a piece of velvet on your ironing board and arrange the stamp or object over it. Gently press your hot iron onto it for approximately 30 seconds while pressing evenly across the surface of the velvet. When finished, allow it to cool before carefully peeling back the stamp to reveal its textured pattern on velvet.
